Kaumberg
Description
The village of Kaumberg lies at the source of the river that gave the Triestingtal its name and on the "Via Sacra", the pilgrimage route from Vienna to Mariazell. The contrast between the Vienna Woods with its gently rolling hills and the foothills of the Alps is particularly noticeable here. Araburg Castle, the highest castle ruin in Lower Austria at 800m above sea level, was built in 1180 to protect against enemies and as a place of refuge. The observation tower offers a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding area.
