Mariazell
Description
Mariazell is probably the most famous Marian shrine in Central Europe and the spiritual center of the Catholic peoples in the Danube region. Nestled between the Annaberg and Seeberg passes, the Mariazell region spreads out its beauty and charm. The great pilgrimages are famous, the Mariazell Advent is enchanting, the Mariazell gingerbread is coveted, the Mariazell herbal liqueurs are intoxicating....
Although Mariazell is located in Styria, its proximity to the Mostviertel region makes it a popular destination for excursions. Not least because numerous pilgrimage routes lead south to Mariazell through the Mostviertel region: the Via Sacra, the Upper Austrian Mariazell Trail and the Pielach Valley Pilgrimage Trail are among the most important.
Tips: A trip to the Mariazeller Bürgeralpe and a visit to the Holzknechtland, a detour to Lake Erlauf with a boat trip, a visit to the new erLEBZELTEREI Pirker, the Arzberger liqueur factory and the pharmacy "Zur Gnadenmutter". Culture lovers can visit the treasure chambers in the basilica, the Mariazell local history museum and the mining museum in Gußwerk.
