Mitterbach am Erlaufsee

In the "wild" Mostviertel on the Via Sacra and in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park - the largest nature park in Lower Austria - lies the idyllic village of Mitterbach at 800 m above sea level. Not far from the almost 2,000 m high Ötscher - the landmark of the Mostviertel region - the certified hiking village with the 1626 m high Gemeindealpe and Lake Erlaufsee offers ideal vacation conditions for the whole family at any time of year.

Recreation in summer ...
Lake Erlaufsee is known for its excellent water quality and is ideal for fishing, swimming, diving, surfing, boating and stand-up paddling. The Erlauf reservoir and Erlauf river are a paradise for fishermen, with an impressive variety of fish. Swimming fun in the solar-heated alpine pool, mountain biking and Nordic walking trails and horse riding round off the varied offer. In summer, the 4.6 km-long gravel track from the Gemeindealpe can be descended at a rapid pace on mountain carts, which can be comfortably climbed in advance using the two chairlifts.
The wooded hiking area around the village, which has been awarded the Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality, allows you to breathe deeply. Many marked hiking trails invite you to enjoy relaxing walks in the surrounding area or challenging one-day or multi-day tours. Particularly popular hiking destinations are the Ötschergräben and the Tormäuer with their unique alpine flora, wild and romantic gorges and waterfalls such as the Mira, Schleier, Lassing and Treffling Falls.

... and in winter
The small idyllic village with a view of the most striking peak in the Pre-Alps, the Ötscher (1,893 m), is also ideal for a winter vacation. The Gemeindealpe offers a pure winter experience for skiing and snowboarding fans as well as ski tourers. Cross-country skiing fans have a well-groomed network of trails at their disposal. You can enjoy the wonderful mountain landscape to the full while winter hiking or snowshoeing. Curling provides exercise and socializing.
