Perchtoldsdorf
Description
The market town is located on the southern outskirts of Vienna in the Vienna Woods. First mentioned in documents around 1140, the town experienced an economic heyday in the late Middle Ages, based on the wine trade. The buildings that still characterize the townscape today date from this period: the castle, the free-standing fortified tower and the Gothic parish church. A special feature is the Perchtoldsdorfer Heide, a rare dry grassland on the slopes of the Vienna Woods, which is very popular for walking.
