Brief description

Annaberg - Joachimsberg - Wienerbruck - Josefsberg - Mitterbach - St. Sebastian - Mariazell

Description

In Annaberg, the route goes downhill – past the cemetery – and along the Way of the Cross designed in monotype by Prof. Sepp Gamsjäger. Above the federal road near the Schachinger inn lies the "Annabründl" with a baroque Pietà. On the Lassingtal path, one reaches the Joachim Chapel on the second “Holy Mountain” (01:45 h) and then Wienerbruck. Off the federal road, you walk to the Josefsberg, the third “Holy Mountain” (01:30 h). Murals in the parish courtyard depict the work of lumberjacks in the forests around the Ötscher circa 1830. Then the path continues to Mitterbach at the Lower Austria-Styria border (01:30 h). Already in Styria lies the Sebastian Chapel on the gentle “fourth Holy Mountain”. From here, it goes along the picturesque Sebastiani path with its rosary image pillars to Mariazell (02:30 h). To enjoy the arrival in Mariazell and the atmosphere of Austria’s most important Marian pilgrimage site calmly, an overnight stay in Mariazell is recommended. Return options to Vienna with the “Mariazell Bus” or Mariazell railway to St. Pölten are available.
