Bruder Klaus Kirche in der Walster

Church

Description

The Bruder Klaus Church on Lake Hubertussee in the Walster lies in the middle of an unspoiled landscape 9 km from Mariazell.
The church was rebuilt in 1966/67 in honor of St. Nicholas of the Flüe. The two Styrian artists Rudolf Szyskowitz (concrete glass windows) and Alexander Silveri (cast iron portal) immortalized themselves in this church. Nikolaus von der Flüe (also known as Brother Klaus), born in 1417 on the Flüeli near Sachsan, farmer, member of parliament and judge, withdrew to the Ranft as a hermit and exerted great political influence on the fate of his country.
This little church is very popular for weddings and baptisms.
