Pfarrkirche zum Hl. Andreas

Church

Description

The parish church of St. Andrew is a Gothic church, the parish was first mentioned in 1161. It is incorporated into the Benedictine Göttweig Abbey. The interior of the parish church and its rococo and neo-Gothic furnishings were completely renovated and restored in 1997. After the renovation of the windows in the chancel, the outer walls were drained, most of the interior plaster was renewed up to window height, the entire electrical installation was renewed and an electric bench heating system was installed. After a new sacristy had already been added to the nave under Father Altmann Tolksdorf, the Gothic room of the old sacristy could now be redesigned as a pronunciation room. Using an old baptismal font, Christian Gurtner created a new high altar, which was consecrated in 1998. It bears a reliquary of St. Andrew, the church's patron saint and the Blessed Sisters Restituta Kafka, Fr. Jakob Kern and Fr. Anton Schwarz. Please also note the Marian altar in the left aisle and the Chapel of the Poor Souls on the right, where the confessional is located. Gravestones have also been placed there, partly behind the altar, the picture of which is attributed to the Krems Schmidt School. The memorial slab of a market judge and his wives on the left wall and a beautiful Pieta statue from around 1500 in the niche deserve special attention. During the renovation, the upper organ loft, which was installed in 1901, was also removed and restored to its former state. The pneumatic organ (Johann Lachmayr, Urfahr 1901) was completely dismantled and overhauled by Windtner, St. Florian, and provided with an additional reed stop after rebuilding. At the same time, Cardinal Dr. F. König inaugurated a new case organ made by Walter Vonbank, Triebendorf/Styria on 20.09.1998.
