Details for: Vienna Pilgrimage Route: Stage 3/4: Rohr - St. Aegyd

Brief description

Rohr im Gebirge – Kalte Kuchl/Kleinzell – Tiefental – Hochreit – St. Aegyd am Neuwalde

Description

A simple hiking trail leads from Rohr im Gebirge to Kalte Kuchl in Kleinzell with the Alpengasthof Rieder (01:45 h). Attention: in good weather there are many motorcyclists! From now on, the hike begins in a scenically beautiful but very remote area without any refreshment options. From Kalte Kuchl, you reach the lonely valleys of the Green and Dry Schwarza rivers with little elevation change via Werasöd (01:30 h). From Tiefental, the route goes through Finstergrundgraben to the first slightly uphill section of this stage, past a saddle with a view of the high-lying neo-baroque Schloss Hochreit in Traisental, built by Wittgenstein in 1888 (01:30 h). Via the Hochreit farmstead in the Mitterbach area, you reach the Seebach valley. From the Mosbach farmstead, take the local road to St. Aegyd, pass the train station, and soon reach the center of St. Aegyd (02:30 h).
