Details for: Viennese Pilgrims' Way: Stage 3/5: Kaumberg - Rohr
Brief description
Kaumberg - Araburg - Kieneck - Unterberg - Rohr im Gebirge
Description
This stage is a tough one and requires stamina and fitness: with several ascents and descents, a total of 1,309 meters of ascent and 24.9 kilometers in length await you! From Kaumberg, you can easily reach the picturesque ruins of Araburg Castle. Shortly afterwards, the Vienna Pilgrims' Trail leaves the shared route with the Via Sacra (which continues into the Gölsental valley to Hainfeld) and turns south towards Rohr im Gebirge. This is followed by a longer, solitary ridge hike with steep ascents via Veiglkogel and Reingupf to Kieneck with the Enzianhütte (04:45 h). You are now in alpine terrain at over 1,000 meters above sea level. Take care in bad weather. After the Enzianhütte, continue on alpine terrain to the Bettelmannkreuz and the Unterberg refuge (02:45 h). Here you have reached the alpine highlight of this tour. The route now continues along forest paths into the valley to the former Gries inn and along the road to Rohr im Gebirge (03:15 h).
