Brief description

Holzschlag – Hafnerberg – Thenneberg – Kaumberg – Hainfeld

Description

From Holzschlag, a hiking trail leads left to Peilstein (and further to Weißenbach via the Wiener Wallfahrerweg). However, the Via Sacra branches off to the right and goes downhill to Nöstach and reaches the pilgrimage church Hafnerberg (01:15 h). The valley section of the Via Sacra runs via Altenmarkt and Thenneberg (pilgrimage church in Dornau) (01:15 h). On the paved cycle path along the Triesting you finally reach Kaumberg, whereby in the last kilometers you can walk on a forest trail on the left mountainside instead of beside the road (02:00 h). For time reasons, you can also go shorter along the cycle path on the federal road to Kaumberg. Now it goes up to Araburg, where shortly after the castle the Wiener Wallfahrerweg branches off to Rohr im Gebirge (via Unterberg) (01:30 h). The Via Sacra leads over a scenic ridge trail and through the forest downhill into the Gölsental to Hainfeld (03:00 h).

Variant via Klein-Mariazell: From Hafnerberg via scenic ridge trails to the reactivated monastery Klein-Mariazell and the St. Corona road further to Kaumberg (18.9 km, 06:15 h).
